Winnie and the

Nightmare Re-Telling

A gospel-centred picture book to equip parents and children to face nightmares and cling to the hope of eternity.

Does your little one have nightmares?

Winnie has bad dreams. Each night, she tries to think of different ways to put off going to bed. She asks for a drink of water. She asks for another stuffed animal. She asks for another kiss. When Mom finally says, “Bedtime, Winnie, no more requests,” she feels afraid. She pulls the blankets up by her neck and tries to sleep with her eyes open so no bad dreams can come.

Sound familiar? This was my bedtime routine as a child, and maybe you face it each night with your little one too.

It’s time we fight bad dreams—with the good news of Jesus and a bit of silliness.

Winnie’s mother helps her re-tell her nightmares in a silly way to make her laugh. Winnie turns nightmares about dragons and pirates into funny, twisty adventures.

But when the nightmares become too scary for Winnie to handle on her own, her mother reminds her of how Jesus is always with her and how he will conquer nightmares one day.

This is how we can fight nightmares together as a family who believes in the hope of the cross.

Bedtime doesn’t need to be a time of angst and terror. We can find peace, rest, and hope in the promises of Jesus and the common grace of laughter.
